Autorecloser enable/disable with an input

Autorecloser enable/disable with an input

In some application possibility to disable autorecloser by user input is needed. To set up an activation/deactivation signal there are just a couple of steps needed. First at Control > Control functions > Autorecloser > Info > AR status and basic settings Set Use AR On/Off signals to Yes. Then choose the signal which enables the function to AR On/Off in the same menu. There are multiple options for what type of signal is used to control autorecloser. This article explains a few of them.

Using binary input

Binary input is used commonly to connect a local physical switch to the relay. It is a very simple and effective way of making AR On/Off control but its only negative is that you cannot control the signal remotely through SCADA.

Using a virtual switch

Using a virtual switch on the protection relay HMI display is a good way to achieve AR On/Off signal that can be controlled both locally and remotely through SCADA.

Setting up a virtual switch for AQ-210 unit

AQ-210 units have Programmable control switches (PCS) available which can be set up to the mimic view of the relay to be controlled either locally or remotely. To set a PCS to mimic set Programmable mimic indicator symbol in mimic editor somewhere to the mimic. Then give this switch a name to this switch at Control > Device IO > Programmable control switch. Name defines the text displayed next to the switch in the mimic.

Then set the status of this PCS to control AR on/off status at Control > Control Functions > Autorecloser > Info > AR On/Off signal. The status signal has the same name as defined for the switch earlier.

With these settings the status of autorecloser can be controlled to On/Off statuses locally and remotely.

Setting up a virtual switch for AQ-250 unit

For AQ-250 units setting up controllable virtual switch is a little bit different from AQ-210. Go to mimic editor and make a new item (right click > Add item). Then click From library and choose one of the switch symbols and add it to the mimic. By default the switch controls Logical input 1 but this can be changed from the right side of mimic editor view.

Then connect this signal at Control > Control functions > Autorecloser > Info > AR On/Off signal.

With these settings the status of autorecloser can be controlled to On/Off statuses locally and remotely.
