Basic fault locator configuration

Basic fault locator configuration

Fault locator application

The fault locator function is used for recording an estimated distance to the point where a fault has occurred. It is mostly used in directional overcurrent protection or distance protection applications but can be also triggered by other protections. The function can be used if all three phase currents and three phase voltages are available.

Fault locator configuration

Enable fault locator at Monitoring > Monitors Enabled. After this you will find fault locator at Monitors > Monitor functions > Fault locator. In the INFO page set signals which trigger fault location calculation with Trig fault locator. Typically overcurrent and distance protection function trip signals are used but other functions can be used as well. Then in SETTINGS page set minimum required current required for an impedance loop to be recorded. See relay IED manual for more detailed description. Then finally set the ohms/km of the protected line.
