Circuit breaker or disconnector status monitor and control with object function

Circuit breaker or disconnector status monitor and control with object function

Circuit breakers and disconnector status and control in AQ-200 series units is done by Object function. Here is a typical setup of breaker/disconnector control and status indication. For more detailed description of objects refer to IED manuals. Objects can be enabled at Control > Controls enabled. After enabling an object it can be found at Control > Objects.

Setting up status and control signals

In the SETTINGS page start with setting up the name of the object and object type. Object type can be a circuit breaker, circuit breaker with cart (withdrawable CB) or a disconnector.
In the same page in the IO section choose object open and close status signals for Object Open Status In and Object Close Status In. In the same IO section set binary outputs for Object Close Command and Object Close Command. If withdrawable circuit breaker is used set Withdrw.CartIn.Status In and Withdrw.CartOut.Status In for cart in and out statuses as well. With these settings the function is able to display the correct status on the mimic display and indicate it to SCADA and close the correct output relay when breaker close/open command is given by the operator.

Setting up event mask for event recording and SCADA communication

The last step is to set up the event mask. This can be done in the EVENTS page of the object. Click on the number box and a window will appear. It is good to choose at least the open and close command and status to be recorded. Most communication protocols require these to be enabled for them to be available for the protocol. When attempting to control the breaker remotely please note that the unit needs to be in "Remote" mode. This can be done with L/R button on the relay panel.

Setting the object to mimic (AQ-210 series units)

To set the object into AQ-210 series units mimic, start by going to mimic editor (Tools > Mimic editor). There simply click where you want the object to be and choose the object from the list. Please note that the object uses the name you have defined at Control > Objects > Settings > Object name. After loading the mimic to relay it is possible to control the object open and closed by choosing the object by pressing the CTRL button until the cursor is on the object and then pressing I (Close) or O (Open). Please note that to control the breaker locally, the unit needs to be set to "Local" mode on the panel with L/R button.

Setting the object to mimic (AQ-250 series units)

To set object into AQ-250 series units mimic, start by going to mimic editor (Tools > Mimic editor). There right click where you want the object to be and choose Add item. Then click From library and choose the Object. Please note that the object will not follow the object type you have chosen but it will once it has been loaded to relay.
